The Hamburg Street station is one of 33 stops on the Baltimore Light Rail. The station is located south of Camden Yards, adjacent to M&T Bank Stadium. The station did not exist when the light rail began operation in 1992. It was built in 1998 as an infill following the construction of the stadium. At that time, since portions of the light rail line had only one track, thereby forcing trains to run on a tight schedule, the stop was used only for stadium events and bypassed at all other times. But in 2005, when the south end of the light rail was double-tracked, the Hamburg Street stop was converted into full-time usage.

The cost of constructing the Hamburg Street station was approximately $6 million, 20 times the average amount of a light rail stop. This was in part because of a pedestrian bridge that had to be constructed to allow access to the stadium.
