The women's vault competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. The event was held at the North Greenwich Arena on 5 August.

The top eight qualifiers in the qualification phase (limit two per NOC) advanced to the apparatus final. Qualification scores were then ignored, with only final round scores counting. Each gymnast performed two vaults. This round, called "event finals" happens to show off the talents off the athletes who are truly exceptional on each event which in this case would be, vault. Athletes work their whole careers to get to event finals at the Olympic games, because that is where you win each individual event medals. The finals are spread out over different days so the athlete doesn't get too tired.

When starting the competition for the day, a random draw is done to determine the starting order to ensure fairness. Two different vaults are performed and the scores are averaged between the two to get your final score which determines your ranking, and ultimately your place on the podium.

The results for qualifications were similar to the results for the event final on this apparatus. The top three athletes were McKayla Maroney (15.800), Sandra Izbasa (15.316), and Maria Paseka (15.049). The top eight scorers were the same in order, with the exception of Maroney (USA), and Izbasa (ROU) switching places. This is quite remarkable because that is rare to happen in an Olympics yet alone any other competition.
