Greenwood is located at 30°52′25″N 85°9′45″W / 30.87361°N 85.16250°W / 30.87361; -85.16250 (30.873517, -85.162431).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.8 square miles (12 km2), all land. Greenwood is only ten miles from Marianna and Malone; as such, most citizens work and go to school in either of those towns.

As of the census of 2000, there were 735 people, 296 households, and 200 families residing in the town. The population density was 153.3 inhabitants per square mile (59.1/km²). There were 335 housing units at an average density of 69.9 per square mile (26.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 66.67% White, 26.94% African American, 1.22% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 1.90% from other races, and 2.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.72% of the population.
