As the first independent college for Jewish studies in North America, Gratz College is an academic institution, providing education rooted in Jewish values for personal and professional enrichment. Through degree and non-degree offerings, Gratz prepares students to succeed as educators, administrators and community leaders. As a pluralistic institution, Gratz is devoted to building a community of learners encouraged to move beyond stereotypes and to recognize the importance of different views and backgrounds. Gratz may be steeped in history, it is focused on preserving the future through the development of educators and leaders.

Located in Melrose Park, Pennsylvania, Gratz College traces its origins back to 1856 when banker, philanthropist and communal leader Hyman Gratz, and the Hebrew Education Society of Philadelphia (established in 1849 by Rebecca Gratz and Isaac Leeser) joined together to establish a trust to create a Hebrew teachers college. Gratz is a private liberal arts college located in a suburban setting and is primarily a commuter campus with online courses.

In addition to its graduate certificate, master’s and doctoral programs, Gratz also runs cultural programs, adult education offerings, a Jewish Community High School, and the Tuttleman Library for Jewish studies. Committed to education without borders, Gratz has embraced the value of online learning, cultivating a global student body with distance learning programs, including the first online Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

Gratz College awards a Master of Arts in Education, Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Master of Arts in Israel Studies, Master of Arts in Jewish Communal Service, Master of Arts in Jewish Education, Doctor of Education in Jewish Education, Master of Arts in Jewish Studies, and Master of Science in Nonprofit Management.

It offers Graduate Certificate Programs in Jewish-Christian Studies, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Jewish Nonprofit Management, Jewish Studies, and Jewish Communal Service.

Gratz also offers professional development courses.

Gratz is regionally accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
