This is a list of Princes and Grand Masters of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta including their medieval predecessors of the Knights Hospitaller, starting with the founder Blessed Gerard Thom (established in 1099 and given papal recognition in 1113 by Paschal II). The most recent Grand Master, Matthew Festing, resigned from his position on January 24, 2017.
