Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto (born 9 December 1944) has been the acting head of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta since his election to a one-year term as Lieutenant ad interim on 29 April 2017. In 2008 he served in the same role in the interim between the Grand Mastership of Andrew Bertie and that of Matthew Festing. The Lieutenant ad interim exercises the authority of the Order's Grand Master when that position is vacant.
Born in Rome, he studied Christian Archeology and History of Art at the University of Rome. He held academic posts at the Pontifical Urban University, where he taught classical Greek. He served as that school's Chief Librarian and Archivist. He has published widely on all aspects of medieval art history.
He became a member of the Sovereign Order in 1985 and took his Solemn Vows in 1993. From 1994-1999 he was Grand Prior of Lombardy and Venice and from 1999 to 2004, a member of the Sovereign Council. In 2004 he was elected Grand Commander of the Order. In 2008 he became the Lieutenant ad interim following the death of Fra' Andrew Bertie, the 78th Grand Master. That same year he assumed the position of Grand Prior of Rome for the Knights of Malta.
His brother Giuseppe Dalla Torre is a senior Vatican official, President of the Tribunal of the Vatican City State.
