The Geezer Butler Band was a solo band led by Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, after leaving Sabbath in 1984. The guitarist was Peter "Pedro" Howse, who still remains a GZR (or g//z/r, geezer) member. Welsh vocalist Carl Sentance (ex-Persian Risk) fronted the band between 1986 and 1988. This version of the band released no recordings, but performed some gigs in 1985 of which some bootlegs exist.

According to the Black Sabbath FAQ Geezer Butler left Black Sabbath after the Born Again tour and the band split up. So he formed the Geezer Butler Band. Geezer joined Ozzy Osbourne 1989 and then came back to Black Sabbath on 1991. He left again after the Cross Purposes tour and the "Nativity In Black" affair. Instead reforming the Geezer Butler Band he decided to form a new band called g//z/r in 1995. The musical style of the two bands are totally different.

Some of the songs composed by Butler & Co. ended up in Black Sabbath's Dehumanizer album (1992), such as Master Of Insanity, that appeared later on the album in a slightly new version and clearly faster tempo. The title Computer God, form the same Black Sabbath release also originates from a Geezer Butler Band song. Aside from the borrowed song title, the melodies are completely different.
