Gary John Dorrien (born March 21, 1952) is an American theologian and Episcopal priest. He is the Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York and Professor of Religion at Columbia University.
He has written 14 books and over 200 articles on ethics, intellectual history, philosophy, political philosophy, social theory, and theology.
Prior to joining the faculty at Union Theological Seminary in 2005, Dr. Dorrien was Professor of Religion and Dean of Stetson Chapel at Kalamazoo College in his home state of Michigan, where he had been reared as a Catholic. Dorrien also studied at the Harvard Divinity School.
