Neighbours is an Australian television soap opera. It was first broadcast on 18 March 1985 and currently airs on digital channel Eleven. The following is a list of characters that appeared or will appear in the show in 2017, by order of first appearance. All characters are introduced by the shows executive producer Jason Herbison. The 33rd season of Neighbours began airing from 9 January 2017.Andrea and Willow Somers made their debuts during the same month. Teacher Finn Kelly was introduced during March, while Dipi, Kirsha and Yashvi Rebecchi, along with Dipi's sister Mishti Sharma, arrived in April. Jeremy Newell and Mannix Foster appeared in June. Evan Lewis and Fay were introduced during the following month.

Andrea Somers, played by Madeleine West, made her first appearance on 20 January 2017. West previously played Dee Bliss, who was presumed dead in 2003 when her husband Toadfish Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney) accidentally crashed their car into the sea. On 15 September 2016, Tiffany Dunk of News.com.au reported that West had reprised the role of Dee. West returned to filming that same week. However, during the episode broadcast on 2 February 2017, it was revealed that Dee was actually an impostor named Andrea Somers. Andrea is impersonating Dee in order to gain money from the Bliss family estate. She also includes her daughter Willow Somers (Mieke Billing-Smith) in the scam, by pretending that she is Toadie's daughter.

Andrea turns up at Number 30 Ramsay Street pretending to be Dee Bliss. She tells Toadie that after the car crashed, she kept being dragged down by the waves. She eventually washed up on the beach, but hit her head on some rocks, causing a brain injury. She was found by a woman named Emily, who did not call for help, as she believed she was protecting her from Toadie. Andrea shows Toadie a photo of her injuries and says she suffered from memory loss, blackouts and mood swings. When Toadie asks why she did not find him sooner, Andrea explains that she saw him with Sindi Watts (Marisa Warrington) and did not want to ruin his happiness. Andrea asks Toadie to help her gain closure. Andrea meets Dee's close friend Stephanie Scully (Carla Bonner), whose partner Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor) is suspicious of her story. He raises the issue of getting a DNA test to prove her identity, but Andrea says they cannot ask Dee's sister Cecile Bliss (Molly McCaffrey) for a sample, as she is dead. Mark later finds that Cecile took part in a medical experiment prior to her death and he obtains a sample of her DNA. Andrea gives Mark a hair and the DNA results confirms that it belongs to Dee.
