Funktronica is a musical genre derived from the fusion of electronica and funk. It often combines elements of digital music made with computers, synthesizers, and samples along with analog instruments and sounds. It may also combine improvisational and compositional elements.
A well known pioneer of the funktronica movement is GRiZ, a electronic saxophone-wielding producer hailing from Detroit Michigan. At 25 years old, he is already hailed as the leader of the genre, combining traditional elements with 80s funk, hip hop, and bass. See also: Livetronica, Vaporwave, Live electronic music
