Fulmodeston is a large parish in the north of the county of Norfolk, and is 6.6 miles east of the nearst town of Fakenham. The now expanded parish of Fulmodeston was formed by the amalgamation of several smaller parishes of Clipstone, Croxton, and Barney. There is still modern settlement in each of these earlier parishes although only Clipstone Farm remains at Clipstone. The parish is bounded to the North by parish of Thursford, east by Swanton Novers and west by Kettlestone the southern boundary of the parish is with the parishes of Stibbard and Wood Norton. The village is centered on the crossroads of two lanes which run north to south and east to west. The village is surrounded by arable farmland. The River Stiffkey passes through the parish a little north of the village. Fulmodeston is an unusual name and can be translated either as farmstead of Fulcmod, an old German name, or derived from the Old English for farmstead of Fulcmond.
