Foot In Mouth Disease is the fourth studio album by Gob. It was released on April 1, 2003. The first single from the album is "Give Up the Grudge". It was quite successful in Japan and sold more than 50,000 copies. "Oh! Ellin" was released as the second single, "Ming Tran" (which previously appeared on the F.U. EP) was the third single, and "This Evil World" was released as the fourth single.
Three of the album's tracks have been featured in many Electronic Arts video games. The album's second track "I've Been Up These Steps" is found in NHL 2003, the album's third track "Oh! Ellin" is found in NHL 2004, and the eighth track "Give up the Grudge" is found in Madden NFL 2004 and was also heard in the 2003 film American Wedding.
Butch Walker produced the song "This Evil World".
It is noted that Foot in Mouth Disease shows a decrease in Theo's singing. On this album, he only provides lead vocals on the twelfth (eleventh on the Canadian version) track "Bully", while on previous albums, he sang equally with Tom. It is the last album by the band to feature longtime bassist Craig Wood before his departure two years later after the album's release.
The American version of the album included a re-recorded version of "I Hear You Calling"; the original version appeared on the group's previous album The World According to Gob.
The song "Ming Tran" was featured in the Being Ian episode, "Band 'o' Bruthaz", in which Gabe, Tom and Theo guest star.
The cover for the album features vocalist Tom Thacker's mouth with the teeth replaced with dirty toes. It was chosen months after the title was. The album was almost delayed by the band because the members did not have a photo for the album cover on time, until Theo thought of the "mouth with toes" picture. The rest of the members laughed at the picture and chose it as the front cover photo. On the inside, the back of the booklet features drummer Gabe Mantle with a big straw in his head and standing in front of two ambulances.
Later prints of the Canadian version of the album feature a bonus DVD. The DVD features 13 audio tracks from the band's past albums, and the 3 music videos from the band's previous album The World According to Gob. The DVD also features a photo of a hand with the album title over it on the disc face, while the CD features the American Red Cross logo also with the title overlapping it, but with the band name in silver on the top left.
