At the team he scored eight goals in 27 league games, before returning to Rapid Bucharest. In the Rapid's period Bratu was considered a great talent in Romanian football and made his debut for the Romanian national team.

In 2003, Turkish club Galatasaray announced that they had reached an agreement with Rapid for the transfer of Bratu with the player agreeing to a four-year deal and Galatasaray paying Rapid a $2,1 million.

In summer of 2012, Bratu signed a one-year contract with Gloria Bistrița, where he spent a few months before announcing his retirement.

Bratu made his debut for the Romanian national team on 12 February 2003 in a match against Slovakia. He played a total of 14 matches for his national side on which he scored two goals.

Since retiring from football in the middle of the 2012–13 season, Bratu has gone into punditry and is a commentator for DigiSport.
