Flatliners is an upcoming 2017 American science fiction psychological horror film directed by Niels Arden Oplev and written by Ben Ripley. The film is a sequel to the 1990 film of the same name, and stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, Kiersey Clemons, and Kiefer Sutherland. Screen Gems will release the film on September 29, 2017, 27 years after the release of the original film.
In October 2015, Ellen Page was cast in the reboot film for an unspecified role. In February 2016, Diego Luna was added to the cast, following him Nina Dobrev also joined the film in April. In May 2016, Kiersey Clemons and James Norton signed on for the film.
In July 2016, it was announced that Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in the original film, would be returning for the reboot. Sutherland later disclosed that he was reprising his role from the original film, revealing that the new film would actually be a sequel rather than a remake. In July 2016, Charlotte McKinney had joined the cast.
Principal photography on the film began in early-July 2016 in Toronto and concluded on September 7, 2016. The film went into post-production on the 4th of October ahead of the September 2017 release.
Screen Gems will release the film on September 29, 2017.
