Proportion 3:5
Adopted November 5, 1996
Design A rectangular tricolour with vertically ordered fields of red, white and green colour (left to right) and the coat of arms in the middle of white field. The proportion of the flag is 3:5, the proportions of vertical fields are 1:3:1.
The coat of arms is of a shield shape. It is composed of three parts. In the upper left quarter in a field of white colour is a shield with a golden-yellow fleur-de-lis on a green field outlined with a stripe of golden-yellow colour. In the upper right quarter in a field of white colour is the historical Croatian coat of arms formed from 25 square fields of red and white colours outlined with a stripe of red colour. In the lower half in a blue field are 10 six-pointed stars of white colour arranged in a circle. The coat of arms and also its upper and lower half are outlined with a stripe of golden-yellow colour.

There is currently no official flag for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The federation is part of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The federation had its own flag between 1996 and 2007 and currently uses the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina for official purposes.

A flag was adopted by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 5 November 1996. On the flag, green stood for the Bosniaks and red for the Bosnian Croats. The same went for the coat of arms, whereon the green arms and golden fleur-de-lis stood for the Bosniaks and the chequy shield for Bosnian Croats. The ten stars arranged in a circle and, although they resemble those on the European flag, represented the 10 cantons of the Federation.

The Bosnian Constitutional Court has voted against the use of the current flag of the Federation declaring it unconstitutional, due to no representation of the Serbs that live there. On 31 March 2007, the Constitutional Court placed its decision into the "Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina" officially removing the flag and coat of arms of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The federation has not yet adopted a new flag, anthem or coat of arms, but uses the symbols of the central state as a provisional solution.
