Five Islands, Antigua and Barbuda

Five Islands Village is a village located on the north west coast of Antigua about three miles southwest of the capital. St. John's. The village is named from five rocks in the sea nearby. The village itself is a peninsula.

The highest point in the village is Mount Barrington, on which lies Fort Barrington, named after Admiral Barrington who captured St. Lucia from the French in 1667. The fort was built in the colonial period, mainly as a look out for any battleships in the area.

Five Islands has a population of about five hundred. There is one primary school, Five Islands Primary School, in the village. A university is in the process of being built.

The people are noted for their farming and fishing since the village is surrounded by twelve of the 365 beaches on the island. In this small-knit community the people are extremely friendly.

The village is famous for its sportsmen, including Richie Richardson the famous cricketer and West Indies coach.

The village has the oldest ongoing hotel in the tourist industry.

The whole peninsula is famous for its turquoise water. The coast is a series of coves and dotted with resorts. A single road connects the villages of this peninsula west of St John’s.
