First Light was an English funk project of Paul Hardcastle.

Paul Hardcastle and Derek Green were originally members of the Brit Funk band Direct Drive, however at the end of 1982, they decided to leave the band and become a duo. They called themselves First Light and released 4 singles and two albums together. Although they only worked together for just over a year; their most known work was "Explain the Reasons" which reached #65 in the UK Singles Chart.

After their 2nd and last album "Daybreak", Hardcastle and Green had a big conflict about the money, but they also had no more musical material for future releases. As a result, Green moved to other projects and Hardcastle pursued a solo career.

In 1989, Hardcastle resumed working on First Light. He signed on with the record label Sgt. Peppers and produced the new project on his own with a more Funk-jazz style of music. Kevin Henry was the featuring vocalist who had previously provided vocals on Hardcastle's solo works. Together they produced a new studio album called "You Had It All" and released 4 singles along with it.
