Full name Fred Farrell, Jr.

Fireman Farrell is a fictional character in the DC Comics universe. He first appeared in Showcase vol. 1, #1 (March 1956). Farrell was created by writer Arnold Drake and artist John Prentice.

Fred Farrell Jr. is the son of Fred Farrell Sr., a Center City (no relation to the Flash's Central City) fireman who had died in the line of duty. In his first Showcase story, "The School for Smoke-Eaters!", Farrell decides to follow in his father's footsteps and join the fire department. While completing his final exam (a rescue attempt on a burning seven story building), Farrell manages to save the life of a fellow trainee, who had made a bad judgement call due to his jealousy of Farrell. In the other stories in Showcase #1, Farrell fights a fire in a circus, and is profiled on a television news program called Let's Take a Look (based on Edward R. Murrow's See It Now).

After his appearance in Showcase, Farrell was occasionally included in cameo appearances in other DC titles. He appeared in Showcase #100, along with all the other characters who had appeared in the previous 99 issues. In Crisis on Infinite Earth #7 (October 1985), Farrell is shown briefly being interviewed by Lana Lang.

Post-Crisis, Farrell is shown to be a member of the Metropolis fire department. As of Batman & Superman: World's Finest #4 (July 1999), Farrell is now a captain in the Metropolis FD.
