Federal Executive Council (Yugoslavia)


The Federal Executive Council (Serbo-Croatian, Savezno izvršno veće (SIV), Савезно извршно веће (СИВ)) was the executive body of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia responsible for state affairs and for supervising the implementation of laws. It consisted of up to 15 members elected by the Federal People's Assembly for a five or four year term and the presidents of executive councils of republics and provinces.

Up until 1963, the President of the Council (Prime Minister) was held simultaneously by the President of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. After 1963, the president was elected by the Federal People's Assembly.

The Council was housed in the SIV 1 building in Belgrade.
