Faulkner Escarpment
Faulkner Escarpment (86°12′S 156°0′W / 86.200°S 156.000°WCoordinates: 86°12′S 156°0′W / 86.200°S 156.000°W) is an ice-covered escarpment, 30 nautical miles (56 km) long that forms the eastern edge of Nilsen Plateau and Fram Mesa in the Queen Maud Mountains of Antarctica. It is over 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) high and trends in a north-south direction. It was discovered in December 1934 by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition geological party under Quin Blackburn, and named by Richard E. Byrd for Charles J. Faulkner, Jr., chief counsel of Armour and Company of Chicago, contributors to the expedition.
