Epsom Cottage Hospital

Epsom & Ewell Cottage Hospital is a small hospital in Epsom in the English county of Surrey. Throughout its history, it has moved several times around the town into various different buildings and has gone under various names.

In 1871, the Pembroke Cottages, in Pikes Hill Epsom, were converted into The Epsom & Ewell Cottage Hospital which opened in 1873 with 8 beds.

In 1877 the Hospital moved to Hawthorn Place, Epsom.

In 1889 it moved to a new building in Alexandra Road, Epsom, built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It was officially opened by Princess Mary of Teck.

In 1948 the Hospital joined The United Kingdom's NHS. At this time it had 40 beds.

It closed in 1988, with 35 beds. Services were transferred to the new 20-bed Epsom & Ewell Community Hospital which opened in West Park Hospital, Horton Lane, in 1990.

The building is still used for health care; it is now The Old Cottage Hospital and contains a large private practice, with X-ray and Physiotherapy Departments.

In 1994 a Day Surgery Unit opened.
