Eli Rubenstein


Eli Rubenstein (January 15, 1959) is a Holocaust educator, writer and filmmaker. He is currently the religious leader of Congregation Habonim Toronto [1] a Toronto synagogue founded by Holocaust survivors. He is also the National Director of March of the Living Canada,[2] Director of Education for March of the Living International,[3] Director of March of Remembrance and Hope Canada,[4] and Chairman of the Canadian Friends of the Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind. [5].

Rubenstein has produced and directed numerous films featuring stories of the Holocaust. He is a noted Jewish storyteller, a member of the team that organizes "Because God Loves Stories" which is part of the annual Toronto Storytelling Festival [6]. He frequently writes for the Canadian Jewish News and his work has also been featured in the National Post, the Montreal Gazette, and on CBC radio and television. He was also interviewed for the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.

Eli Rubenstein was born in Toronto to Isadore Rubenstein and Esther Rubenstein (née Greenblatt). His father, born in Canada, was the son of immigrants from Tarlow and Ożarów, Poland. His mother was born in Szatmárcseke, a village in Eastern Hungary, but fled with her family to the US in 1941 just before Nazi Germany closed the borders. He is the first cousin of Donald Trump's chief legal advisor, Jason Greenblatt, and the first cousin once removed of anti-war activist Robert Greenblatt.
