Eldred is named for Judge Nathaniel B. Eldred.

Eldred is located at 41°57′24″N 78°23′1″W / 41.95667°N 78.38361°W / 41.95667; -78.38361 (41.956725, -78.383579).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 825 people, 345 households, and 224 families residing in the borough. The population density was 919.67 people per square mile (376.4/km2). There were 402 housing units at an average density of 446.67 per square mile (177.7/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 96.48% White, 0.12% Native American, 0.97% from other races, and 2.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.42% of the population.

There were 345 households, out of which 31% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42% were married couples living together, 16.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
