Edward Henry Charles James, 7th Earl of Ilchester GBE DL (1 October 1905 – 21 August 1964), was a British peer and philanthropist. He also held the subsidiary titles and styles of Baron of Woodford Strangways of Dorset and Baron of Redlynch of Dorset.
Edward Henry Charles James Fox-Strangways, 7th Earl of Ilchester was born on 1 October 1905. He was the son of Giles Fox-Strangways, 6th Earl of Ilchester and Lady Helen Mary Theresa Vane-Tempest-Stewart, and usually went by his middle name of Harry. He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. Fox-Strangways gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Horse Guards, Reserve of Officers. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Fox-Strangways held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dorset in 1957. He succeeded to the title of 7th Lord Ilchester and Stavordale, Baron of Redlynch, co. Somerset [G.B., 1747] on 29 October 1959.
He married Helen Elizabeth Ward, daughter of Captain Hon. Cyril Augustus Ward and Baroness Irene Blanche Nicolette van Brienen, on 27 April 1931. The couple had three children:
Harry died on 21 August 1964 at age 58, without surviving male issue. He was succeeded in the Earldom of Ilchester by Walter Angelo Fox-Strangways, a descendant of the 1st Earl of Ilchester and Harry's fifth cousin, once removed.
