Edward Conyers

Edward Conyers (baptised 14 February 1693 – 23 April 1742) was an English barrister and politician who represented East Grinstead as a Member of Parliament.

Conyers was the second son of MP John Conyers, of Walthamstow, Essex, and Mary Lee, daughter and heiress of George Lee of Stoke St. Milborough, Shropshire. Conyers had 15 siblings. His uncle was uncle Sir Gerard Conyers, Lord Mayor of London. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, graduating 22 July 1710. He joined the Middle Temple in 1707.

After his father's death, Conyers replaced him as MP, sitting in Parliament from 6 April 1725 to 1727. He was returned to Parliament from 1734–41.

He married the Hon. Matilda Fermor, daughter of William Fermor, 1st Baron Leominster. They had six children, including John Conyers, who was also an MP.

Conyers purchased the Copt Hall estate in 1739. His son John built the current Georgian mansion on the site beginning in 1748.
