ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018, also known as ELEAGUE Boston 2018 or Boston 2018, will be the twelfth Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major tournament. It will be organized by ELEAGUE. The group stage will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, United States from January 19, 2018 to January 22, 2018 and the playoffs will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, United States from January 26, 2018 to January 28, 2018. It will feature sixteen professional teams from around the world. Eight teams directly qualified based on their top eight placement in the last major, PGL 2017 Kraków Major Championship, while another eight teams will qualify through the ELEAGUE Offline Major Qualifier. ELEAGUE Major is the fifth consecutive major with a prize pool of $1,000,000. This will also be the first time a CS:GO major will take place in two cities.
There will be four regional qualifiers – Americas, Asia, CIS, and Europe. Two teams from each qualifier will move on to the main qualifier that will take place in Atlanta from January 19, 2018 to January 22, 2018. Each regional qualifier will have online open qualifiers, closed qualifiers, and the main regional qualifier.
In the major qualifier, the top eight teams will move on to the major. These teams will be known as "Challengers." The top eight teams from the previous major, PGL Major 2017, are known as "Legends." The top eight teams at this major will be the new Legends while the bottom eight teams will not receive automatic bids to the next major, but will receive direct invites to the next major qualifier.
In the playoffs, eight teams will play in a single elimination, best of three bracket. Teams will play until a winner is decided in the finals.
The map pool will be kept the same as the previous major.
The Asia Minor took place shortly after the major announcement. Eight teams will be invited to the qualifier in Seoul and no online, open, or closed qualifier will take place. The Asia Minor will take place on October 26, 2017 to October 29, 2017. The dates caused some controversy as TyLoo and AVANGAR and Team Spirit from the CIS qualifier of EPICENTER 2017, a premier tournament, were forced to drop out of the tournament due to the dates of the minor and EPICENTER running into each other. Similar events happened in the past, including Renegades forced to drop out of the ESL Pro League Season 4 Finals to play in the ELEAGUE Major 2017 Asia Minor.
