Dvorak Simplified Keyboard

The Dvorak Simplified Keyboard (Listeni/ˈdvɔːræk, dəˈvɔː-/ d-VOR-ak) is a keyboard layout patented in 1936 by Dr. August Dvorak and his brother-in-law, Dr. William Dealey. Several modifications have since been designed by the team led by Dvorak or by ANSI. These variations have been collectively or individually called the Simplified Keyboard or American Simplified Keyboard, but they all have come to be commonly known as the Dvorak keyboard or Dvorak layout.

Dvorak proponents claim the layout requires less finger motion and reduces errors compared to the standard layout, the QWERTY keyboard. It is claimed that the reduction in finger distance traveled permits faster rates of typing while also reducing repetitive strain injuries, though that claim has been questioned, and that criticism in turn has also been challenged.
