Douglas L. Peterson


Douglas L. Peterson is an American businessman and is the chief executive officer of S&P Global, formerly McGraw Hill Financial. He became president and chief executive officer in November 2013. He originally joined the company as president of Standard & Poor's Ratings Services in 2011.

Peterson was a longtime employee of Citigroup and worked there for 26 years in various positions around the world. He was the chief operating officer of Citibank, N.A., before joining S&P Global. From 2004 to 2010, Peterson was the CEO of Citigroup Japan. He served at the time, as the chief auditor of Citigroup from 2001 to 2004. Earlier positions within Citigroup include serving as country manager for Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Peterson earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics and history from Claremont McKenna College in 1980. He earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1985.

Peterson has and continues to serve on a variety of boards, in addition to his duties at S&P Global. He is a member of the board of directors of S&P Global, the Institute of International Finance's Market Monitoring Group. He has also served on the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's Systemic Resolution Advisory Committee for over two years. Peterson serves on the boards of advisors for the Wharton Financial Institutions Center, as well as the Kravis Leadership Institute and the Partnership for New York City. Peterson is a member of the boards of trustees for Claremont McKenna College and is also on the board for Paul Taylor Dance Company.
