Douglas Darien "Doug" Walker (born November 17, 1981) is an American actor, comedian, film critic, filmmaker, and internet personality, best known for portraying the character of the Nostalgia Critic in the web series of the same name.
Walker was born in Naples, Italy to a US Navy father. He studied film at Northern Illinois University and majored in communications. Working as an illustrator, he began posting comedic film reviews to YouTube under the fictitious persona of the Nostalgia Critic, a high-strung and perpetually frustrated film critic prone to angry outbursts at even the slightest provocation. Walker's reviews proved popular, but a series of copyright strikes by 20th Century Fox and Lionsgate on his videos led him to relocate to ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com, an independent website. Walker's success attracted other similarly-minded reviewers, and they together formed the production company Channel Awesome. Walker ran the site in conjunction with webmaster Mike Michaud and his brother Rob Walker, whom also writes and produces many of its videos.
In 2012, Walker announced the Nostalgia Critic's retirement, as he and his brother felt they had taken the character as far as they could. The retirement was short-lived, however, and Walker announced the return of the beloved character in January 2013 with a short sketch video entitled "The Review Must Go On." The show was revived in February of the same year in a new, bi-weekly format. In December 2015, Walker released the 300th episode of the series, a review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
