Shoghi Effendi, head of the Bahá'í Faith in the first half of the 20th century, designated nineteen Western Bahá'ís as Disciples of 'Abdu'l-Bahá and 'Heralds of the Covenant':
In volumes of the Bahá'í World published in 1930 and 1933, a list of the Disciples, prepared by Shoghi Effendi, together with their photographs, has been published. No other statements about them has been found in Shoghi Effendi's writings.
