The Director of the Office of Naval Intelligence serves as the head of the Office of Naval Intelligence, which is part of the United States Intelligence Community.

In November 2014, the Navy nominated Rear Admiral Elizabeth L. Train for a third star and to relieve Branch as Director of Naval Intelligence. Train's nomination is expected to be confirmed in early 2015. In April 2016, Train's nomination was withdrawn in favour of Vice Adm. Jan Tighe.
