Dhusamareb (Somali: Dhuusamareeb), (Arabic: دوسمريب) also spelled Dhusa Mareb, is the capital city of Galmudug State of Somalia And the Capital of Galguduud region. It's in the heart of Dhusamareb District.
Dhusamareb became the capital city of the autonomous Galmudug state of Somalia in 2014 central region state formation conference endorsed by the federal government of Somalia.The purpose of the conference was to build a unified state in central region of Somalia consisting of the Regional State of Galmudug, the Administration of Himan & Heeb and the Administration of Ahlu Sunna wal Jamaa.
Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a pulled out of the state formation conference in 2014 over disagreements regarding the composition of the delegates. The group has since controlled Dhusamareeb which is the official capital of Galmudug state forcing the Government to use The second capital of Galmudug state, Adado as temporary capital.
It's 511 km away from Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. The highway that connects the north and the south of the country goes through the city.
as of 2005, Dhusamareb had a population of 91,260 inhabitants. The broader Dhusamareb District has a population around 200,000 and it's the biggest district in Galguduud region of Somalia. The city is primarily inhabited by people from the Somali ethnic group, with the Habar Gidir well-represented.
The Dhusamareb University provides undergraduate degrees.
