Deutetrabenazine (trade name Austedo) is a pharmaceutical drug for the treatment of chorea associated with Huntington’s disease.
Chemically, deutetrabenazine is an analog of tetrabenazine in which six hydrogen atoms have been replaced by deuterium atoms. The incorporation of deuterium slows the rate of drug metabolism, allowing less frequent dosing. In May, 2017, published data showed deutetrabenazine effective in tardive dyskinesia.<ref>Deutetrabenazine effective in T.D. Retrieved May 28, 2017.
