Derek Thomas is a British Conservative Party politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for St Ives since the general election in May 2015.

Thomas was born in 1972 to parents who were two missionaries. He grew up in West Cornwall. He completed a traditional Cornish Mason Apprenticeship.

He studied in South London and then returned to West Cornwall to be a development manager for Mustard Seed, a voluntary organisation in Helston, Cornwall and Chapel Street Methodist Church, Penzance. He later started his own small construction business.

He has developed community projects which enable vulnerable adults to have better lives.

Thomas served as Penwith District Councillor.

He contested St Ives at the 2010 general election, coming 1719 votes behind the Liberal Democrat incumbent Andrew George, whom he subsequently defeated in 2015.

Thomas supported Brexit in the 2016 European Union Referendum

Thomas one again contended for the St Ives seat in the 2017 general election, his campaign began on the 10th of June 2017 at his Penzance office and was attended by Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Andrea Leadsom. He went on to be re-elected increasing his vote share, however with a diminished majority of 312.
