The football rivalry between Académico 83 and Académica da Calheta do Maio is one of the two rivalres in the island of Maio, Cape Verde, the other is the Clássico de Porto Inglês which features Académico 83 and Onze Unidos.
The rivalry began around in the 1990s when the regional championships started. There have been around 50 meetings between the clubs.
The two major communities of Cidade do Maio (then Vila, colloquially known as Porto Inglěs) and Calheta in the north. Both of the clubs are an affiliate of Académica de Coimbra. It is a rivalry between the Académica clubs, the other in Cape Verde is on the island of Sal known as Clássico da Ilha do Aeroporto.
Académica Sal's last win was on February 22, 2013. Académico do Aeroporto's last win was on March 13, 2016. The upcoming match will be on February 19, 2017.
Académico do Aeroporto is the most successful football (sooccer) club on the island, having won about 16 official regional titles, compared to Acadèmica da Calheta's 3 official regional titles.
