Dejan Židan (Pronounced: Deyan Zhidan - Dɛyan ʒidan) was born 16 October 1967 in Maribor. He is currently a Slovenian politician and the leader of Social Democrats.
A veterinarian by education, Židan served as Minister of agriculture, forestry and nutrition in the years 2010-2012 in Borut Pahor's government. In the 2011 parliamentary election, Židan was elected a member of the National Assembly. In 2013, Židan became a Minister of agriculture and environment in Alenka Bratušek's government. In March 2014, Židan was named the most popular Slovenian politician in the public opinion poll. Following the European Parliament election, Židan replaced Igor Lukšič as pro tempore president of the Social Democrats party.
