Deep Space Gateway

The Deep Space Gateway (DSG) is a crew-tended cislunar space station planned by NASA for construction in the 2020s. The station would be used as a staging point for the proposed Deep Space Transport. It is also being considered by international partners for use as a staging ground for robotic and crewed lunar surface missions.

The Deep Space Gateway will be initially placed in a Near-Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO) around the moon. Its various components are to be launched on the Space Launch System as Orion co-manifested payloads on the flights EM-2 through 8. The DSG is likely to incorporate components developed under NextSTEP-2.

The Power and Propulsion Bus for the DSG will mass 8-9 metric tonne (mT) and be capable of generating 40 kW of solar electric power. 12kW ion thrusters will provide manoeuvrability which can be supported by chemical propulsion.
