Deborah Spungen

Deborah Spungen (born 1937) is the mother of Nancy Spungen, the girlfriend of punk rocker Sid Vicious, who became known for her autobiography And I Don't Want to Live This Life which details life with her late daughter.

She began the Philadelphia-based nonprofit FMV, Families of Murder Victims[1], soon after Nancy's death in order to cope with her tragedy, and later obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College.

Deborah Spungen, born into a Jewish family in Philadelphia, has been the owner of a natural foods store, a direct mail consultant, a member of the Philadelphia Crime and Elderly Coalition, and founded the Philadelphia chapter of Parents of Murdered Children.

In 1998, she wrote another book, Homicide: The Hidden Victims.

Spungen's husband, Frank died on July 2, 2010 at the age of 76. In addition to Nancy, the couple had two other children, Susan and David.
