Death Race 2050 is a 2017 political satire action film directed by G.J. Echternkamp, and starring Manu Bennett, Marci Miller and Malcolm McDowell. It is a sequel to the 1975 film Death Race 2000. Both films were produced by Roger Corman, who described the film as "a car-racing picture with some black humor."

In a large stadium, network hosts announce the next Death Race, a competition in which drivers accrue points for killing pedestrians. On virtual reality screen, the Chairman of the United Corporations of America describes its origins: by 2050, the country has become overpopulated, and robotic labor has caused over 99% unemployment. The Death Race provides both entertainment and population control. The drivers include Frankenstein, the reigning champion; Jed Perfectus, a genetically-engineered athlete; Minerva Jefferson, a hip hop star; Tammy the Terrorist, who leads her own brainwashed cult; and ABE, an artificial intelligence. Before the race begins, Tammy reveals she has hidden an explosive device in the stands, and it kills 17 people, delighting the crowd.

Each driver is assigned a proxy, a broadcaster who allows the audience to experience the race through virtual reality. Frankenstein is immediately put off by his proxy, Annie Sullivan, and ignores her attempts to interview him. He is further annoyed when she urges him to allow Tammy to pass him, and he drives his car off an overpass rather than backtrack once Perfectus drives him off the main course. As the drivers race through the East Coast, rebels led by former network producer Alexis Hamilton set traps. Minerva's fans line up on the road to sacrifice themselves, but Tammy steals her kills and increases her lead. After running into a rebel trap, ABE malfunctions, kills its proxy, and drives off to discover its purpose. On a tip from a fan, Frankenstein takes a detour near a school that has set aside several wheelchair-bound children for him to kill. Disgusted, Frankenstein instead kills the school administrators, narrowing Tammy's lead.

At the first checkpoint, the drivers rest at a luxurious hotel. There, Hamilton demands Sullivan, a rebel spy, kill Frankenstein. Frankenstein dismisses her seduction attempts and says he cares for nothing but winning the race. Elsewhere, the Chairman explains that Frankenstein has become a liability because of his longevity, whereas Perfectus will encourage his devoted fans to die at his hand. When the race starts up again, the drivers pass through the heartland of the country, known for its gun-wielding citizens. Minerva is hit especially hard, as her urban music and dark skin alienate the race fans. However, when Tammy's religious followers offer to martyr themselves, Minerva steals her kills.
