David Allen (playwright)


David Allen (born 4 January 1936, Birmingham, England) is a British playwright. He is notable for his play Cheapside, which has been shown at the Warehouse Theatre (in Croydon, South London) and the White Barn Theatre. His play Pommies was given its first performance at the Warehouse Theatre, Croydon in April 1988. It was directed by Ted Craig and designed by Michael Pavelka. The cast was Patrick Toomey [Ray], Derek Crewe [Charlie], Frank Ellis [Stan Forster], Glynn Sweet [Neville], Gary Raymond [Arthur], Jennifer Guy [Pamela] and Stella Tanner [Doris]. His play In the Doghouse was produced at The Warehouse Theatre [in Croydon, South London], opening in December 1990. It was directed by Ted Craig, and designed by Michael Pavelka. In the cast were Carol Burns, Graham Christopher, Frank Ellis, David John, Okon Jones, and Linda Spurrier. Other plays include Gone with Hardy, with music by Terence Clarke, directed by Richard Wherrett for Nimrod Theatre, and starring Drew Forsythe, Henry Szeps, and Kerry Walker.

Allen was educated at Liverpool University and gained an honours degree in English Language and Literature.
