Daniel Mannix Petrie Jr. (born November 30, 1951) is perhaps best known as one of the screenwriters of the mid-1980s films Beverly Hills Cop and The Big Easy as well as the director of Toy Soldiers. He is the son of Dorothea (Grundy), a producer, novelist, and actress, and Daniel Petrie, Sr., a Canadian-born director; he is also the brother of director Donald Petrie. The family was awarded an American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.

A graduate of the University of Redlands, in addition to his creative pursuits Petrie has been active in entertainment industry organizations. He was the president of the western chapter of the Writers Guild of America in the 2000s. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the American Film Institute; member of the Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; and member of the Board of Advisors of the Austin Film Festival and Screenwriting Conference.

He is co-founder of Enderby Entertainment.
