Dale Lavelle Carter (born November 28, 1969) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, and Baltimore Ravens.

Carter was drafted as a cornerback by the Chiefs in the 1992 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee.

In 1992, Carter was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

After six seasons in Kansas City in which he shined on the field, but had numerous off-the-field problems, Carter signed a four-year, $22.8 million-dollar contract with the Broncos in 1999, making him the NFL's highest-paid defensive back. After a poor year, Carter was suspended for the entire 2000 season due to a fourth substance abuse violation before being released during the 2001 season. He then played for the Vikings, Saints and Ravens before retiring after the 2005 season.

Upon retirement, Carter started a non-profit organization to assist young men and women from making the same mistakes that he made. The Olivia Carter Foundation based in Dallas/Ft.Worth Texas and its vision is "To empower and enhance the lives of today's youth by giving them a voice of hope"

Carter is the half brother of former NFL Wide Receiver Jake Reed. He also has a brother Fredrick Carter who is currently a health teacher in Hobbs,NM. He also has a sister named Karen Gibbs who works for Liberty Middle School in Covington, Georgia. Carter's son, Nigel Warrior, is a standout high school football player at Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, GA. He transferred before his senior season to PRHS from Westlake High School, where Cam Newton played. Warrior was selected to play in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl after his senior year of high school. On February 3, 2016, he followed in his father's footsteps by signing with the University of Tennessee to be a part of Team 120.
