Devonte Jerrell "D. J." Newbill (born May 22, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who plays for Telenet Oostende of the Belgian League (BLB). He played college basketball for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Newbill attended Strawberry Mansion HS in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Named the Pennsylvania Class AA Player of the Year. Averaged 24.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0 steals. Also named Public League Player of the Year. Led Strawberry Mansion to a 28-2 record and the Class AA State Championship. Named First Team All-State by the Philadelphia Daily News. Also earned First Team All-City and All-Public League honors. Set the school's single-game scoring record by dropping 64 points, finishing 23-of-30 from the field and 16-of-17 from the line against Saul. As a junior, he averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Garnered Second Team All-State and All-Public League honors. Newbill also lettered in Track.

Newbill started off his collegiate career playing for the Southern Miss where he averaged just under ten points per contest and six rebounds.
Following the 2012–13 season Newbill decided to transfer to Penn State to be closer to family in Philadelphia. Where his college career took a major step forward Newbill was put in the starting spot due to the starting point guard at the time Tim Frazier having suffered from a ruptured left Achilles tendon. On February 8, in a game vs Minnesota Newbill scored a season high 31 points and a last second buzzer-beater three to win the game for the Nittay Lions 79–76 in the regular season finale, the play made an appearance at number 3 on ESPN's Top 10. In his final season with the Nittany Lions Newbill led the Big Ten Conference in scoring with just under 21 points per game. During Newbill's senior season at Penn State he scored a career high 704 points during the year. And had 1,812 points during his career at Penn State and 2,105 if you include his time at Southern Miss for his career. At the end of his senior season and being declared for the NBA Draft Newbill was on the fringe of most mock drafts, some having him going in the last five picks in the second round and some having him undrafted. It did turn out that D.J. was undrafted by an NBA team, but Newbill received offers from multiple NBA D-League teams.
