Primary elections to choose the presidential candidate of the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) for the 2018 presidential elections will be held in 2017. The primary was scheduled for the beginning of summer 2017, but delayed to November. There are many in the party who are opposed to holding a primary election. ČSSD leader Bohuslav Sobotka later stated that primaries may be held in summer 2017 due to a government crisis in May. On 23 August 2017, Milan Štěch stated that ČSSD had not yet chosen a candidate, and possibly would not have one.
