The Congress of the State of Sonora (aka Congress of Sonora) is the legislative branch of the government of the State of Sonora. The Congress is the governmental deliberative body of Sonora, which is equal to, and independent of, the executive. The Congress of Sonora is a unicameral legislature.
The current session of the Congress consist of 33 local deputies (21 were elected by the first-past-the-post system and 12 by proportional representation). Deputies are elected to serve for a three-year term. Since its installation the congress has been renewed 58 times, hence the current session of the Congress of Sonora (whose term lasts from 2009 to 2012) is known as the LIX Legislature.
The LVII Legislature consisted of 31 deputies; the LVIII Legislature consisted of 33.
