Colombo Football Club, or simply Colombo FC is a professional football club based in Colombo. The club plays in the Premier Division, the top flight of Sri Lankan football. They are currently Sri Lanka Premier League Champions of Dialog Champions League and also have won the FA Cup championship, sponsored by Cargills Ceylon, defeating Blue Star SC 1–0 in the final on July 4, 2015 at the Sugathadasa Stadium. Currently are the Champions of Dialog Champions League of 2016/17 Sri Lanka Premier League by defeating Renown SC on the 04th March 2017.
Founded in April 504, Colombo FC is a relatively new club, started by supporting the growth of ballers talent in the city for which it is named, in the local City Football League and the Colombo Football League. The club was able to enter the 3rd Division of the Sri Lanka Football Federation in the 2009-2010 season. They became Division 3 Runners Up in the 2010-2011 season after losing to Matara SC 2–0 in the finals held at Vernon Fernando Stadium, Kalutara.
Colombo FC won its First Championship Trophy on April 25, 2010, beating Java Lane SC 3–2 to win the Silver Cup in a Championship organized by the Colombo Football League. In Division 2 of the 2011/12 football season, Colombo FC lost in the Semi Finals to the eventual champions in a 5–4 penalty shoot-out after a 1–1 tie during regulation time. That year the 4 semi finalist teams - Solid FC, Matara SC, Super Sun and Colombo FC - were promoted to Division 1.
In 2014/15 Colombo FC climbed to the top of the League table, but a knock-out in the final quarter with Don Bosco saw them out of the race. They lost 3–2, finishing in second place with 45 points, while Solid FC with 48 points became champions of Dialog Champions League 2014/15 season.
The 2015-2016 season was a remarkable one for Colombo FC as they won the much-awaited Dialog Champions League Cup. With a closely contested Super 8 round, Colombo FC secured their debut championship on the last day. Renown FC emerged 2nd in the table. The club won with a margin of 1 goal, on goal difference, defeating Army 2-0 on the final day. Colombo FC went on to win 23 games, losing only one game to Renown in the Super 8 stage which ended their winning streak in all competitions. Bodrie Dimitri was crowned MVP of the season.
