Coastal states

A coastal state is a state that is not landlocked.

Thirty states in the United States have a coastline. This includes an ocean coast, a gulf coast, or a Great Lake coast. There are twenty three ocean/gulf of Mexico states, and eight Great Lake states. (New York is both an ocean state and a Great Lake state.) As of July 2004, the estimated population of states that are always considered coastal states was 171,891,161.
