Clostridium aerotolerans is an anaerobic, motile, gram-positive bacterium.
Cl. aerotolerans is xylanolytic, which means that these bacteria can digest the polysaccharides collectively known as xylan. Among this species' products are formic acid, acetic acid, lactic acids, ethanol, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen.
