The Cleveland Council of Independent Schools (CCIS) is a consortium of independent schools in Northeast Ohio, USA.
CCIS was incorporated in 1967 after several years of periodic meetings of the trustees and heads of four east side independent schools: Hathaway Brown, Hawken School, Laurel School and University School. The founding premise and today's mission statement remain essentially the same. In the words of the current mission statement, CCIS serves member schools and their constituents by promoting, supporting, and enhancing the values of an independent education in Northeast Ohio through the facilitation of meaningful collaboration. Presently, there are eleven Northeast Ohio independent schools within CCIS. CCIS includes day schools, Montessori schools, boarding schools, single sex and coeducational settings, each with its own mission, culture and approach. CCIS schools share important characteristics: low student-to-teacher ratios, innovative curricula and passionate, highly qualified teachers committed to the students' success.
