Christow
Christow is a village, parish and former manor on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Devon, England. It is on a side of the Teign Valley, five miles (8.0 km) from the small town of Chudleigh and eight miles (13 km) from Exeter. The village population is about 850 and increasing. Christow is the principal population centre for the Teign Valley electoral ward. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 2,668.
Within the village there is a shop, a post office, a pub (The Artichoke), a small industrial estate (Gidley's Meadow), a doctor's surgery and a Community Hall. At the Community Hall there are three tennis courts and a skate park. There is also a play park in the village with climbing frames, swings, slides, a zip wire and a basketball court.
The village was served by Christow railway station until it was closed in 1961.
Within the parish is situated the historic tything of Canonteign, now containing two mansions, one formerly the late-Tudor residence of the Davie family, now in the form of a restored farmhouse; the other a white neo-classical house built by Captain Pownoll Pellew, later 2nd Viscount Exmouth (1786–1833).
